Gradually the rounds were limited: 20, 15, 12, 10... Currently the fights can last from 4 rounds (in amateur field), up to 12 rounds that we find in world or continental championships.

- Flyweight: Boxers weigh between 48 and 51kg If they exceed this weight, but do not reach the next category, they are considered super flyweight.
- Bantamweight: Boxers weigh between 52.16 and 53.52 kg. If they exceed this weight, but do not reach the next category, they are considered super bantamweight
- Featherweight: Boxers weigh between 55.33 and 57.15 kg. If they exceed this weight, but do not reach the next category, they are considered super featherweight.
- Light Weight: Boxers weigh between 58.96 and 61.23 kg. If they exceed this weight, but do not reach the next category, they are considered super lightweight.
- Welterweight: Boxers weigh between 63.50 and 66.67 kg. If they exceed this weight, but do not reach the next category, they are considered super welterweight.
- Middleweight: Boxers weigh between 69.85 and 75.56 kg. If they exceed this weight, but do not reach the next category, they are considered super middleweight.
- Medium Heavyweight: Boxers weigh between 76.20 and 79.37 kg. If they exceed this weight, but do not reach the next category, they are considered cruiserweight.
- Heavyweight: It is the highest category and boxers weigh more than 91 kilos.
